Happy Wednesday and happy belated Labor Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the day off – I spent it catching up on emails and trying to get a bit ahead on homework for the week. I spent the weekend with my boyfriend and his family in Washington, D.C. which was quite nice as it was the first time I saw him in over two months. However, Monday was not quite a day off but a catch up day.
Grad school has definitely ramped up more in the second half of my program, especially as I prepare for Capstone in the spring. I’m getting a bit more adjusted to my new job, but balancing it all is definitely getting harder. This will be a crazy year for sure, but I know it will pay off in the end.
One of the most important parts of staying on top of my game is definitely staying on top of my health. I’ve been trying my hardest to keep moving each day, whether its SoulCycle or a run or lifting or even just a walk and some yoga. If I don’t move, I get so anxious and restless sitting at a computer for over 12 hours a day. Health is much more inclusive than just getting a sweat on and burning some calories, staying on top of my nutrition has an effect on the way I feel as well. The better I eat, the better I feel. If I start snacking on chips instead of veggies, I get groggier and grumpier.
In addition to all that, I’ve been making a point to stay on top of my vitamins as well. As soon as I wake up in the morning, I’ve gotten into the habit of finishing whatever is left in my Hydroflask, and taking all my supplements on an empty stomach (I read somewhere that’s how they’re best absorbed…or I’m crazy, either could be the case!). I wanted to spend this week going a bit deeper into what I take and why I take it.
One thing you’ll see is I take a lot of gummies…its the child in me! This multivitamin has Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Iodine and more. It’s a great, wholesome vitamin that I’ve been taking for about three years now.
Because of my low bone density, I take an extra Calcium and D3 vitamin as well. This gummy has bone and teeth support in addition to D3 and calcium. These gummies in particular taste like candy, so I highly recommend!
Every morning I take a Goli Apple Cider Vinegar Gummie, which helps with digestion, appetite control, improves the immune system and is infused with superfoods and vitamins. A bonus is that they’re super tasty! You can use my code “meganrule” for a discount on your Goli order!
I was approached last month to be a MaryRuth’s partner, and I was so excited to join the team! I got to try both the D3 and B12 gummies and the Biotin gummies for hair, skin and nails. Both have such a great taste and of course great benefits as well.
Probably my favorite supplement is the Seed Daily Synbiotic, as I have noticed such an improvement in my gut health. Taking just one pill each morning has helped regulate my digestion and ease my stomach if I don’t eat the best. I don’t have weird stomach pains after eating and I’ve noticed some great changes in my skin as well! You can use the code “MER15” for a discount on your order there.
Again, because of my low bone density, I try to focus as much as possible on any and everything that could help my bones and joints. Collagen is a great resource for that, as our bodies stop producing it naturally after a certain age. I’ve also noticed my skin clearing up and glowing a bit more, so another added bonus!
As an avid exerciser, protein is an important part of the diet. I’m not the biggest fan of meat, so I do eat a lot of fish and yogurt. In addition to that, I like to add protein powder to my smoothies or waffles in the morning, especially after a hard session! I love Nuzest because it doesn’t taste chalky or powdery like many other powders. It’s vegan, clean ingredients and helps build lean muscle. I love the vanilla and strawberry flavors the best! You can use the code “letsrunamegathon” for a discount on your powder!
Two things I do for my gut health include starting my day with hot lemon water and eating fruit first thing in the morning. Neither are scientifically based, so please don’t come after me (I’m not a doctor, I’m just listening to my body!). I read a few things about the benefits of starting with something hot to clear out any yucky things in the gut, and better absorption of vitamins and minerals in fruit when done on an empty stomach. Along with this, I try to stay super hydrated throughout the day as well, to keep things moving and of course hydrate my muscles and skin throughout the day as well. Also, does anyone else feel more awake when they’re more hydrated?
What do you like to do to take care of your body? Are you going to try any of these supplements/tactics? What else do you want to see? Let me know in the comments!
